Microsoft demos transparent, touchless interface

MS glass interface uses eyes, gestures, voice
Microsoft chief research officer Craig Mundie as part of his college tour this week demonstrated a unique concept for a future computing interface that would in many cases go without any touch input. Although it would support pens for precise input, the transparent glass display would also recognize voices and detect touch-free gestures, much as with the Xbox 360's upcoming Project Natal. The system can also detect eyes and navigate based on their gaze.
As a Microsoft Research project, the interface doesn't have a concrete timetable and is primarily a test vehicle for multiple technologies Microsoft has been or hopes to implement soon. Natal is most likely to ship for the Xbox in the second half of 2010 but hasn't yet been implemented in a full computer operating system. [via istartedsomething]

MS to English Translator:
"unique concept" -> "it has a nice personality"
"future computing interface" -> "impressed, aren't you?"
"go without any touch input" -> "people won't use it even if we ever actually make it"
"can also detect eyes and navigate based on their gaze" -> "but so far can't navigate based on their glaze"
"doesn't have a concrete timetable" -> "could be released as a concrete table"
"primarily a test vehicle" -> "let's make another traveling presentation"
"multiple technologies Microsoft has been or hopes to implement soon" -> "really, we're going to do these things ... or maybe one of them ... sometime ..."

look m$ ship jumping apple converts, we have R&D too. we can theoretically make stuff too and its shiny, we dont have to buy all our ideas.
seriously though, make it. prove yourself, until its in my hands its just vapor. pure speculation here, based on all the patents apple sends off, they may have something like this going on too. but they wait till its ready for primetime.
these days M$ reminds me of the old att commercials that promised all these super great things. what was the slogan "someday you will" feel free to correct me. not knocking att labs ive heard they have created some great things we probably take for granted.

Didn't we already hear about this 10 years ago from Microsoft's Bill Gates, himself? It's where we talk to our PC's to have it perform tasks and inform.

Lets see the information came from something called college week.
The guy demoing this stuff is head of MS Research and Development.
Why would the head of R&D be visiting colleges and showing off stuff from the lab?
I figured it would be obvious but then I saw the story posted here so no shock at the laughable posts being made.
It is not a commercial for blowhards like you sitting on your butt at home, I can tell you that much.

Looks cool - I hope they can bring it to market. In big companies like that, great ideas can sometimes be smothered by internal politics.

While the commercials for Natal, and this look cute, its like the 5000 $ big a** table. You can do the same things on a Mac or iPhone now for much much less. And they are easy to carry.
So who do you think is actually going to make this real technology for you and me?????? Hmmmm, maybe its some kind of fruit company.... :-)
Just a thought,
