Samsung 27-inch monitor doubles as HDTV

Samsung has introduced a new monitor that doubles as a TV on Wednesday with the 27-inch SyncMaster P2770HD. The display is Samsung's largest with an HDTV tuner built-in and can natively display 1080p video. The integrated picture-in-picture and picture-by-picture features let users compute while watching TV.

Specs include a 300cd/m2 brightness ratio, a 5ms response time and a 50,000:1 contrast ratio. There are also two built-in 3W speakers with support for Dolby Digital Plus and SRS TruSurround HD 5.1 surround sound formats.

Connections are plentiful, and include an HDMI input, a DVI-D input, a VGA input, optical audio input, an auxiliary input, component video and audio, as well as composite audio. There is an antenna connection as well.

The P2770HD will cost the equivalent of $477 when it is released in Korea at an undisclosed date. A US release for the monitor is also expected sometime soon.
