ASUS set to release 17.3-inch 3D notebook
ASUS will release a 17.3-inch 3D notebook, the G72GX, early in 2010 with high-spec features such as an Intel Core i7 CPU, GeForce GTS 160M graphics, 4GB of memory and two 320GB hard drives, according to Chinese daily Digitimes. Before that, however, the computer maker will unveil a smaller, 15.6-inch version known as the G51J3D that should otherwise have near-identical specifications.
Either will reportedly use an optimized displays with shutter glasses to achieve the intended effect. Acer's competing Aspire 5738DG 3D notebook relies instead on polarized glasses, with the simpler technology also expected to be reflected in the prices, as the ASUS notebooks are expected to be priced higher than the $780 starting price of the Acer notebook in the US.
ASUS will reportedly contract Pegatron Technology to manufacture the two 3D notebooks. The sources also claim that HP and Dell will also reveal similar 3D notebooks in the near future.
