Nokia adds DVB TV phone and lands E72

Nokia this morning launched an upgraded version of a key feature phone and shipped its flagship business phone. The 5330 Mobile TV Edition puts a DVB-H mobile TV tuner in Nokia's budget music phone and lets it watch free, digital broadcasts with a programming guide to pick channels. It's optimized for the format as it uses the owner's headphones as the antenna and has long enough battery life to last for six hours of TV.

It continues to carry a 3.5mm headphone jack and dedicated music controls and sports both a 3.2-megapixel camera and 3G. Nokia promises a low price as the phone ships for 155 Euros ($232) even before carrier discounts.

Simultaneously, the company now says the E72 is reaching stores. The Symbian S60-based QWERTY phone is a direct upgrade to the E71 that gains an optical trackpad in place of the older directional pad, a higher resolution 5-megapixel camera, and a much improved interface for e-mail as well as IM. It continues to support 3G, GPS and Wi-Fi. The E72 should sell for 350 Euros ($525) before discounts and will have two models that support North American 3G, pointing to Canadian and US versions.
