Sprint launches 4G in Austin, San Antonio
Sprint on Monday launched its 4G mobile broadband in two Texas cities, Austin, and San Antonio. As before, the WiMAX network promises speeds between 3Mbps to 6Mbps for downloads in real-world use, which should bring VoIP, video and other tasks that are normally too data-intensive for 3G networks. Sprint's 4G mobile broadband network is already available in regions such as Chicago, Dallas and North Carolina.
There is just one primary plan for the 4G service, priced at $70 per month for unlimited 4G network access or 5GB of 3G access. A day pass, meant for travelers, costs $10 and allows unlimited 4G access during the period.

I'm using 3.5G here in Japan and I get 7 Mbps on my iphone and 12 through my PC card. Why is 4G so slow? Heck in Australia they are pushing 25Mbps. Docomo Japan is demoing a new "Super 3G" which claims 100Mbps down and 50Mbps up. Why are we always so far behind in the States?
