Sony Daily Edition Reader now up for pre-sale
Sony on Wednesday began taking pre-orders for its most advanced e-book reader, the Reader Daily Edition. The third e-book Reader from Sony, following on the Reader Pocket Edition and Reader Touch Edition, is the first Sony Reader to get a 3G connection for faster connection to Sony's eBookstore. It also sports a larger 7-inch touchscreen for easier reading of digital newspapers and magazines, and can be viewed in either portrait or landscape orientations.
Users are not charged for the 3G data connection, which only allows browsing Sony's eBookstore. Compatible files from elsewhere can be viewed on the Daily Edition Reader thanks to a USB connection. Integrated memory is enough to hold more than one-thousand ebooks, and there are expansion slots.
As with most other readers, users can highlight and take notes on the reader, in this case using the included stylus pen or virtual keyboard. Notes can then be exported and printed out. A built-in Oxford American English Dictionary lets users look up the meaning of words by tapping them.
The Reader Daily Edition will ship sometime in December, with prices set at $400. Sony will also announce newspaper and magazine content providers next month.
