Wireless Dynamics outs NFC, RFID reader add-on

Short-range wireless device maker Wireless Dynamics today introduced its iCarte 110, which is the first device to bring two-way near-field communications (NFC) and RFID to the iPhone and iPod touch. The iCarte can transfer info and make contactless payments by containing an embedded smart chip which can act as a debit, credit, pre-paid or loyalty card, turning the iPhone into an electronic wallet.

The add-on also lets users read and write RFID tag information and sent in real-time to enterprise databases either via the iPhone's Wi-Fi or 3G connections. Businesses can use their iPhone with the iCarte accessory for commercial uses that include asset and document tracking, health care, security and access control for doors.

The iCarte is compatible with the iPhone 3G and 3GS as long as they run OS version 3.0 or newer. It has its own mini-USB connector which that allows users to charge the iPhone and sync it with iTunes without having to remove the adapter.
