Windows Home Server Power Pack 3 coming soon
Microsoft announced on Thursday it will soon release Power Pack 3 for Windows Home Server. The update is meant to improve the integration of Windows Home Server with Windows 7 and Windows Media Center by allowing backup and restore of Windows 7 comptuers, Windows 7 Libraries integration, new features in Media Center and added support for netbooks. Windows Home Server is meant for network-attached storage devices.
Among the changes is the easier integration of shared Windows 7 libraries into Windows Home server. Windows 7 Action Center will also recognize Windows Home Server as a backup solution and stops warnings that say backup has not been set up. The update will also bring a power setting that will let Windows 7 wake up just in time for a scheduled backup and then go back to sleep when finished.
A new Windows Search 4 is part of the update and is said to speed up search times, indexing times and reliability. Extended Remote Discovery makes libraries with Windows Search 4 more efficient, and add EFS encrypted file support.
Recorded TV programs can also now be automatically archived in the format users pick for quick playback on home computers or portable devices. Users can also access information about their home server from their host PCs and Windows Media Center.
Power Pack 3 will be available on Tuesday via a free and automatic download, in Chinese, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese and Spanish.
