Sony 280-inch 3D display requires special glasses
Sony is showing off a 280-inch 3D display at the currently ongoing International Broadcast Equipment Exhibition in Japan. The 3D LED Wall is 21 feet wide by 11 feet tall and can show both 2D and 3D video. It is made up of 70 LED displays, each 28 inches in size.
The system requires polarized glasses to be worn by viewers in order to see the 3D images, as the system displays overlapping images, each for the right and left eye.
Sony also displayed the HDC-P1 multi-purpose camera for taking 3D images, along with a rig that allows combining two HDC-P1s and shooting 3D video at the show.
3D TVs and Blu-ray players are expected to come to homes in Japan in 2010, though when TV broadcasts will be sent to homes in 3D is still unknown. The US already broadcasts some 3D images in live sports and music programs. Sony is recently concentrating its efforts on 3D technology, including for its PS3 gaming system. [via Tech-on]
