Flagship Omnia II due for VZ in one week
Verizon today finally set out a launch for the Samsung Omnia II on its network. As confirmed in a leak, the Windows Mobile 6.5 flagship will reach the carrier's stores on December 2nd and should sell for $200 on contract, though only after a $100 rebate. The new edition also brings support for Visual Voice Mail, VZ Navigator and V CAST media apps.
Other than the switch to CDMA and EVDO as well as a cosmetic restyling, the Verizon model is fundamentally similar and centers on a large 3.7-inch, 800x480 AMOLED touchscreen with Samsung's "cube" TouchWiz interface on top and the faster, more accurate Opera 9.5 web browser taking precedence over Internet Explorer. A 5-megapixel camera, GPS and Wi-Fi are stock, although the Verizon model only appears to have 8GB of built-in memory versus the usual 16GB; a microSDHC slot allows more storage.
