Sony intros recorders with MP3 playback

Sony on Monday introduced a new range of digital voice recorders with MP3 music playback capability. The ICD-UX200 and ICD-UX300F have a built-in, flip-out USB connector for easy transfer of files and can double as thumb drives for transferring other types of files. In the LP mode, the 4GB ICD-UX300F can record 1,072 hours worth of audio.

Playback of the recorded audio or any stored digital audio files is thanks to the included earbuds or integrated speaker. The recorded audio is saved as an MP3 file, and users have the option of activating the noise reduction and low-cut filter to help eliminate background noise. To make it easier to transcribe the recorded audio, users can play it back in a choice of 21 speeds.

A five-line LCD provides a window into the interface for the devices, which can sort files into up to five folders for different recording types. The files can be divided, erased, selected and moved.

The 2GB ICD-UX200 can be had in black, silver, pink and red, while the 4GB ICD-UX300 is offered in black or red. The 4GB ICD-UX300F adds an FM tuner and can be had in black only. The recorders will ship in December, though prices have not been released. The devices are compatible with Mac and Windows PCs.
