VUDU adds Wikipedia app to its online service

VUDU has recently added Wikipedia to the interface of its on-demand video service, letting users access information on any movie or show they're considering watching. The application will also link to various actors, actresses, movies and directors related to the particular title they're watching. Users can browse Wikipedia like they would traditionally via a web browser on their PC.

Because VUDU's interface is based entirely online, the company says it's easy for it to add such functionality, as well as movie review site Rotten Tomatoes, the latest theatrical trailers and more. VUDU users get the updates at the same time regardless of what hardware they use to access the service and don't need to wait for individual firmware upgrades.

The free Wikipedia app can now be accessed from the VUDU menu. Earlier in November, VUDU added Flickr, Pandora, Picasa, and a number of other apps to its menu.
