Amazon launches Ver 2.3 update for Kindle 2, DX

Amazon on Wednesday launched its promised update for the Kindle 2 and DX. Version 2.3 brings with it native PDF support for the smaller Kindle and extends battery life from four days to about a week with the 3G connection turned on. Previously, users had to e-mail PDF files for a conversion.

Besides these, users can now manually rotate their screens as they see fit in the smaller Kindles, with they five-way controller switching up its functions to suit.

After the update, the Kindle DX will more efficiently crop PDF files to show more content on the screen when in the landscape orientation. The screen saver will now also kick in after 20 minutes instead of the previous 5 minutes to extend page viewing time.

The update is free and should be downloaded automatically through the Kindle's 3G data connection. First-generation Kindles don't yet have an update but are still poised to get PDF support in the future.
