Apple Black Friday discounts active in US

Apple as promised has launched its Black Friday sale, currently ongoing in the US, Canada and Europe. The Friday-only discounts are highlighted by a $101 price cut for all iMac and MacBook Pro models regardless of size. The iPod touch also sees heavy discounts, bringing the 64GB model down to $358, the 32GB version to $268 and the 8GB model down to $178.

Other key Apple discounts include $11 price drops on both capacities of iPod nano, bringing them to $138 and $168 each, a reduction on the Apple TV to $208, and a $30 drop on iWork '09 that lowers its price to just $49.

A handful of Apple accessories are also on sale, highlighted by its wireless routers: a 1TB Time Capsule is discounted to $278, while the Airport Extreme and AirPort Express have both been discounted by $11 to reach $168 and $88 respectively. Most of its less expensive devices have been discounted $5, including the In-Ear Headphones ($74), Magic Mouse and Wireless Keyboard (both $64), and the Nike+iPod dock/sensor and sensor-only kits ($24 and $14).

Among highlights in third-party items, Microsoft Office 2008 has been discounted to $98, while Monster Cable's Beats over-ear headphones have dropped to $228. Sanyo's Xacti VPC-FH1 camcorder is now $428, Altec Lansing's Mix iMT800 iPhone/iPod boombox is $228, M-Audio's KeyStudio 49 keyboard is $68, and the MoGo Talk combo Bluetooth headset and case combo is $98.

All of the sales will last until 11:59PM Pacific time at the Apple Store.

    A joke?

Is it April Fools day or Black Friday? $101 off a $2000 iMac? almost an insult, especially when Apple resellers regularly beat Apple Store pricing anyway. Very disappointing.

You said "heavy discounts"? That must be a relative term based on some concept that anything more than a $1 is a heavy discount because all I see are lightweight reductions not remotely enough to stimulate buying unless one was already planing on buying.

It's a good thing Apple makes the best computers otherwise they would never get away with treating people the way they do!

    A joke.

It's true, I spend my entire days whipping myself into a frenzy over the horrible way Apple treats me. It's a wonder I can get any work done at all.

    Get a grip.

    factory refurbs

People would save the same by buying factory refurbs from Apple. Somehow, I get the feeling there's no discount on the refurbs.

And while the spammer at the first comment is annoying, it's nowhere near as annoying as the damn ad from intellitxt.com that pops up if you even accidentally hover over a hyperlinked word. This is the kind of thing that drives people to install ad blockers and adding intellitxt.com to filter lists.

    Seems like a (minor) deal

My computer of choice is the (faster) quad-core 27-inch iMac, with 8G and a 2-terabyte drive. I have not figured out the exact percentage that $101 off would have been for that configuration, but it must be around three percent. As a deal, three percent sucks! Two facts mitigate the pain. Fact one: this completely new computer is barely even arriving for people who pay full list. Fact two: there have been reports of units DOA.

By the time refurbs arrive, or the next wave of hardware improvement sweeps through, I will be able to afford my Miraculous Desktop of Digital Life. They will have all the bugs worked out, and I will be able to afford it, too.
