Clear and Sprint expand WiMAX further

Clearwire and Sprint together expanded their WiMAX networks to key areas in the US. Both companies now offer the 4G-level service in Chicago, Honolulu and Maui in Hawaii, Seattle and the Puget Sound area. Clearwire has also added its specific service to Austin, Dallas/Fort Worth and San Antonio in Texas as well as Charlotte, Greensboro and Raleigh in North Carolina.

The service on either network provides about 3Mbps to 6Mbps in real-world downstream speeds.

Prices vary between the two carriers. Clearwire is the least expensive and starts at $30 per month for fixed service at home; its mobile Internet plans start at $35 for 2GB per month and include a $45 unlimited plan. Sprint's monthly plan is $70 but includes unlimited 4G and 5GB of 3G downloads. It also carries a $10 day pass.
