Dell M6500 also gets Quadro FX 3800M video

(Updated with pricing) Dell today upgraded its most powerful notebook line today by launching the Precision M6500. The new mobile workstation updates to Core i7 quad-core processors and scales up to a 2GHz Core i7 Extreme. It claims an additional performance crown as the first notebook anywhere to use NVIDIA's Quadro FX 3800M, supplying an extra level of speed beyond the 3700M in 3D rendering.

While it still has a 17-inch screen (up to 1920x1200), it gains further control over color. Dell notes that the panel not only covers 100 percent of the Adobe RGB space but now has color profiling to match particular conditions on the spot. Higher-end trim levels bring edge-to-edge RGB LED backlighting.

Pricing for the system starts at $2,749 with a 1.6GHz Core i7, a 1440x900 display resolution, 2GB of RAM, read-only DVD, a 160GB hard drive and ATI FirePro M7740 graphics. A fully optioned M6500 carries both the faster processor and GPU (a Quadro FX 2800M is also available) but as many as three hard drives, including up to 500GB rotating drives, 256GB solid-state drives and 160GB encrypted drives. It can handle as much as 16GB of RAM and has options for DVD burning or Blu-ray as well as 3G over either HSPA or EVDO Revision A.
