NEC LED backlit display has green credentials

NEC on Tuesday introduced its first LED-backlit desktop display for workers, the 22-inch MultiSync EA222WMe. Meant for business and school, the monitor is about 20 percent more efficient than other monitors with the same brightness. It's likewise NEC's most environmentally friendly desktop display, with reductions in heat, weight and packaging as well being free of mercury, halogen and arsenic.

The panel produces 250cd/m2 in brightness, a 30,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio (1,000:1 static) and a 5ms pixel response time. Its native resolution is set at 1680x1050. The typical power consumption is 23W, but there are two Eco modes, each drawing 17W and 13W, respectively. In sleep mode, the monitor uses 0.45W.

Video connections include one each of VGA, DVI-D and DisplayPort. Otherwise, there is a built in USB hub, integrated speakers and a height adjustable stand with a range of 4.3 inches that can also pivot, tilt and swivel the display.

The EA222WMe will begin shipping later in December for $339.
