Samsung outs Diva handsets made for women

Samsung on Tuesday introduced a pair of Diva-series phones meant to appeal to women, with the S5150 Diva flip phone and the S7070 Diva touchscreen phone. The former has a hidden LED screen on its outside that only lights up when a notification needs to be displayed. The interface has special fonts and features, including a wish list for shopping. An etiquette mode quickly silences the phone, and the device can be programmed to call itself in order to give its owner an excuse to leave a conversation.

More pedestrian features include a 3.2-megapixel camera, but it does have an image retouching feature as well as a Lomo Effect function that can replicate the old camera's effects. There is also Bluetooth support, a speakerphone and a microSD memory card slot.

The S7070 has a touchscreen display and features a version of Samsung's TouchWiz 2.0 user interface preloaded with fonts and features unique to that phone. It has the same 3.2-megapixel camera with the same photo editing options.

Users can also access social networks such as Facebook and MySpace and have pre-installed access to instant messaging.

The Samsung S5150 and S7070 Diva will be available in January in European countries. Prices for either device haven't been announced, and there is no indication when or if the handsets will come to North America.
