Acer Aspire 8942 to pack quad-core and new GPU
Acer is reportedly planning to replace the Aspire 8935 with a new flagship that would be one of the first to use AMD's Mobility Radeon HD 5850. The 18.4-inch Aspire 8942 would effectively become the first notebook with DirectX 11-capable graphics and has other specs that reveal it as a gaming notebook: it should hold a four-core 1.6GHz Core i7, 8GB of RAM, and two 640GB hard drives.
Its dual role as a media center is equally supported by the presence of a Blu-ray drive, a native 1080p screen resolution and HDMI video out. Although not mentioned, it's probable that Acer's usual 5.1-channel speaker system should carry through to the new system.
Pricing and specific ship dates are still a mystery, but as AMD is poised to unveil its new graphics hardware early next year, it's possible the new system will be unveiled in January and ship soon afterwards. [via Fudzilla]
