Yamaha intros YSP-5100 with more speakers
Yamaha on Thursday introduced the latest addition to its Digital Sound Projector range with the YSP-5100. Compared to the YSP-4100 on which it's based, the YSP-5100 is 6.7 inches wider and packs two more tweeters into this extra outside space for better sound dispersion for a better virtual surround sound experience. It otherwise has the same HD decoding abilities that include Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD, the same 55W power output and the same audio connections.
The added bulk also allowed Yamaha to expand the air space behind the woofers by 63 percent, giving the YPS-5100 better bass response. The speaker can play back audio in stereo or virtual 5.1-channel and even 7.1-channel modes. An acoustic microphone is included to help in setting up the system to work ideally in a specific room shape, size and layout.
Connections include four HDMI ports, a component video input, a composite input, two RCA audio inputs, two optical digital outputs, one digital coaxial and one composite video output.
The YSP-5100 will begin shipping in Japan before the end of December, priced at the equivalent of about $1,600. [via Impress]
