Kodak hands OLED work to LG

Kodak today bowed out of making OLED displays. The optics company says it has decided to "tighten [its] investment focus" and has sold the assets behind the display technology to LG for an undisclosed amount of money. In return, the two companies have entered into a cross-licensing deal that will let either have access to each other's OLED-related patents.

The American company was the first to develop viable OLED, but it has been relatively hesitant to use it in its own products and primarily drew attention for its OLED Wireless Photo Frame last year. It's unknown what advantages LG will have as it has already been developing OLED, but acquiring the Kodak business can potentially accelerate the introduction of OLED TVs and displays for both phones and computers.
