AMD to demo Blu-ray stereoscopic 3D at CES

AMD, CyberLink to show off Blu-ray 3D at CES
Chipmaker AMD on Monday announced that it will demonstrate the future Blu-ray stereoscopic 3D standard at CES early in January. The technology is expected to be made available for sale during the latter half of 2010. AMD will join with software maker CyberLink to demonstrate the technology at its booth for the show.
The Blu-ray stereoscopic 3D standard will bring 3D videos to the home where it has largely been restricted for use in theaters. While other details are scarce, the stereoscopic Blu-ray 3D technology is just one of the 3D technologies AMD is supporting, which includes 3D DLP televisions along with dual-panel and line interleaved 3D computer display.
The technology relies on viewers to wear special glasses to view the imagery, which shows two slightly offset images with each frame.
