New competitors provide more data

M1 and StarHub will join SingTel in carrying the iPhone on December 9th, the first two companies have announced. M1 is offering four different plans, priced between $36 and $198 SGD ($25 to $142 US) per month. Paired with a two-year, $36 per month contract, a 16GB iPhone 3GS costs $518, while a 32GB model costs $658. Under the most expensive plan, any iPhone is free.

The carrier is notably the cheapest option for the iPhone in Singapore, but more generous than SingTel in terms of data. Whereas SingTel offers 3GB per month at best, M1 offers 10GB with its two cheapest plans, and unlimited data with its most expensive ones.

StarHub is charging between $38 and $205 per month for its four subscription plans, and maximums of $538 and $668 for 16 and 32GB devices when on a two-year contract. The carrier supplies a base 12GB of data, saving unlimited traffic for the $205 plan.

SingTel remains the most expensive carrier, demanding between $39 and $205 per month and even more than StarHub for its phones. Competition is likely to force SingTel to lower its prices and/or raise its data caps.
