LaCie intros 2.5-inch Rikiki external hard drive

LaCie recently and quietly outed its latest portable hard drive, the 2.5-inch Rikiki. It is said to be one of the smallest drives of its types on the market, with its name being slang for "tiny" in French. It is encased in a brushed aluminum case and the only connection for both power and file transfer is a USB 2.0 port.

While both Mac OS X and Windows PCs are supported by the Rikiki, only Windows users can take advantage of the included USB Boost software that can boost transfer speeds by up to 33 percent. LaCie Backup Assistant can be used with either operating system, helping users safeguard their files.

The Rikiki is available in 250GB, 500GB, and 640GB, with each priced at $75, $110 and $150, respectively.

    Useless ...

If it's only got USB 2.0, it's basically useless. In fact I think that's what USB stands for : Useless Serial Bus :-) USB is just too slow for anything with hard drives in it. It's great for mouse and keyboard and other input devices; it's just not that good for bulk data transfer.
