ViewSonic to ship Win 7 ViewBook on Friday

ViewSonic on Monday entered into a new category for the company in North America with its VNB102 ViewBook. The 10.1-inch netbook uses a 1024x600 LED-backlit panel but is one of the relatively few netbooks so far to launch with Windows 7 Starter Edition. As with other netbooks, there is a 1.6GHz Intel Atom CPU and 1GB of internal memory, along with a 160GB hard drive.

There is otherwise a built-in Wi-Fi connection, and users can connect to external displays thanks to a VGA output. A 3-in-1 card reader and three USB ports are also integrated. The standard six-cell battery is said to provide up to six hours of life.

The VNB102 ships on December 18th and carries a $399 price tag. ViewSonic promises to bring other ViewBook models early in 2010.
