LaCie, Symwave team up on USB 3.0 RAID drive

LaCie today collaborated with Symwave to showcase a version of the former company's 2Big RAID 0/1 drive that uses the SuperSpeed USB 3.0 standard to deliver burst read speeds as fast as 275MBps. The dual hard disk RAID storage uses both a SATA and RAID bridge controller to deliver this record-setting transfer speed.

The high performance of the drive will let professionals quickly transfer large files and uncompressed video or perform real time streaming and editing of multiple HD files at the same time.

When it ships to customers early in 2010, the dual-disk 2Big USB 3.0 will be available in up to 4TB capacities and be compatible with Mac and Windows systems, although no current Macs natively support the faster speeds. More information is expected to come at CES next month.
