Droid hack allows Wi-Fi tethering
An online guide on the DroidForums has popped up that reveals how to enable Wi-Fi tethering functionality for the Motorola Droid smartphone. The feature is not otherwise available, and a user on the forums has built and shared a custom image of Android 2.0.1 to enable it. It was apparently created with the help of Google's own Android Wi-Fi Tether project.
The operation does not require special shell commands, and users can control it right through the phone's GUI. What is required is that users root the Droid and install a custom kernel along with a custom recovery image to get it working. Earlier hacks for the Droid only enabled tethered data use through a USB cable, and not the handset's Wi-Fi connection.
Judging by the user response, the "fix" works properly after the phone is restarted, allowing users to tether the Droid to their notebooks or other types of PCs for mobile data access offered up by their handsets. [via TheGadgets]
