Yamaha sound system gets unique sub in receiver

Yamaha Electronics earlier this week launched its latest home theater audio system, the YHT-S400, meant for small living rooms. The two-piece system consists of a slim sound-bar speaker and a unique subwoofer integrated into the receiver. The HD Audio compatible system has three HDMI inputs and one output and uses Yamaha's own Air Surround Xtreme techonology for a simulated 7-channel surround sound environment.

The sound bar is only 2 inches tall and can sit in front of most 32- to 50-inch TV sets without covering part of the screen. The speaker bar's feet can be removed or adjusted both horizontally or vertically for more installation options. The speaker bar contains three speakers, each powered by 50W. A 5-inch subwoofer is integrated into the receiver, and gets 100W of power. The receiver also has Yamaha's UniVolume feature built-in, which will maintain a consistent volume level between all sources, be it TV, DVD, Blu-ray, as well as during commercials.

The YHT-S400 should be available now for $600.
