BenQ JoyBook Lite U103 netbook gets SSD, HDD

BenQ on Monday launched the latest addition to its JoyBook Lite netbook lineup with the U103. The 10.1-inch PC is unique in that it features a sub-1-inch thickness and Intel's new 1.66GHz Atom processor, as well as the option of a 32GB solid state drive in addition to a standard, 500GB hard drive. Windows 7 is preloaded onto either, depending on the spec. The JoyBook Lite U103 is also the first netbook of its size to feature SRS TruSurround HD and SRS CS Headphone features for virtual 3D audio.

The LED-backlit display has a 16:9 aspect ratio, and features are otherwise common to netbooks, including the 1.3-megapixel camera, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.0. A 3G modem is optional.

With the standard three-cell battery, the U102 weighs 2.4lbs. With the optional six-cell battery, users can take advantage of BenQ's Q-Charge feature, which can charge up the battery to provide 4.5 hours of life in about an hour. The six-cell is also rated at eight hours of operation when fully charged.

The U103 is now available in China, Taiwan and Thailand, in either white or blue. There is no indication on pricing or a release date for the North American market.
