COOL-ER intros 3G model, adds periodicals
Interead, the manufacturer of the COOL-ER line of e-book readers will unveil new models at the CES show later this week. This includes the 6-inch COOL-ER Compact, which uses an E Ink screen and 2GB of onboard memory that can be expanded thanks to a built-in SD memory card slot. At the same time, the existing COOL-ER Classic will get new color options, while a new COOL-ER Connect will get Wi-Fi and a touchscreen. Another new model, the COOL-ER 3G, will get a 3G connection, likely courtesy of the previously noted AT&T deal.
At the same time, the company has added hundreds of thousands of e-books to its online store and has launched COOLERMatic. This will let those with Internet-capable COOL-ER readers access thousands of newspapers and magazines in addition to Twitter feeds. COOL-ER readers support 19 e-book formats, including the common EPUB and PDF formats. Users can also share content they download with up to five other readers. COOL-ER Connect and 3G models can also access supported websites.
All COOL-ER e-book readers have multiple language support that can show menus in English, Spanish, Portuguese, German, French, Russian, Japanese and Chinese.
While prices haven't been announced, the COOL-ER Compact and COOL-ER Connect will ship in the spring, with the COOL-ER 3G arriving later, in mid-2010.
