Meizu M8 firmware to allow Windows Mobile apps

Meizu CEO Jack Wong said on the weekend that the new 1.0 firmware for the M8 M8 smartphone, is being developed with the help of Microsoft that will give the device the ability to run Windows Mobile apps. At the same time, Wong revealed that upcoming M8 phones will switch to a new, more durable PET touchscreen, though it is still undergoing testing.

As for the expected 3G version of the M8, Wong believes it is still about six months away from an official launch. The current M8 resembles the iPhone, although it lacks 3G network support or a GPS sensor. It does have a 3-megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, an industry standard mini USB connector for sync and a removable battery, however. [via MeizuMe]

Back in 2007, this was considered the

product to beat the iPhone. It still hasn't really left the drawing boards. It's odd that most companies can slap together a smart phone in a couple of months and this Meizu M8 has taken two years and they even chosen the worst OS to run on it.
