3M M2256PW gives touch to Win 7, more

3M today unveiled one of the first multi-touch desktop displays that supports more than two input points. The M2256PW has a typical 22-inch, 1680x1050 display but can recognize as many as 10 points, or two full hands, without an increase in lag. It's designed for Windows 7 but should work with any computer that can recognize the input.

The screen takes DVI or VGA for input and uses USB both for the touchscreen input as well as to take in peripherals. 3M hasn't detailed pricing or said exactly when it expects the display to ship.

    Remember the Gorilla Arm!

Why do they keep doing this?

    Change of habit

When we place the screen below us like a Cintiq rather than in front of us like an ATM, touch screens will start to make sense!

    Okuda-gram keyboards?

I wonder if the next evolutionary step is for "keyboards" that are actually displays. The keyboard can change depending on the situation. Foreign language keyboards, gaming keypad, etc etc.

    no

The next evolution is the virtual keyboard, where you just 'type' on your desktop.

Of course, I'm not really sure what is so wrong with keyboards that they need to be replaced with something 'new' and 'better'.
