Compacts concentrate on social networking
Kodak has unveiled several future EasyShare cameras, all contained within the company's M series. Like the Slice, the new EasyShares all have a dedicated Share button, which tags photos and video for later uploading to sites like Flickr, Facebook, YouTube and Kodak Gallery. Face recognition technology is said to make it easier to locate photos with particular individuals.
The top-end M580 is rated at 14 megapixels, and uses an 8x zoom lens with a 3-inch LCD. It supports HD video capture, and can hook into a TV via an HDMI connection. The M575 scales down to a 5x lens, and lacks an HDMI connector. Both cameras should ship in April, at costs of $200 and $180.
The M550 is a 12-megapixel camera with 5x zoom, and a 2.7-inch LCD. It should ship in March for $150. The final new model, the M530, is nearly identical, but uses a 3x lens instead. The camera should arrive in February for $130.
