Kindle DX gets world HSPA 3G

Amazon tonight upgraded the Kindle DX to include an international version. Like the smaller Kindle, the 9.7-inch version can now be sold to and download books in more than 100 countries. Its features remain intact and include its particularly high-resolution 1200x824 display, doubled internal storage of 4GB, and native PDF support in addition to the usual Kindle and text support.

The new reader carries the same $489 price as the previous Sprint-based EVDO version and should start shipping on January 19th. While the price is the same regardless of country, downloads of books and other Kindle Store text carries a small premium whenever downloaded outside of the US.

It costs more because you're on a 'foreign' network, just like how you pay more when you take your cell phone to another country and use it there.
