Kodak Slice and Playsport extend camera range

Kodak's CES introductions today are headed up by firsts alternately for itself and for the industry. The Slice is its first touchscreen camera and uses a 3.5-inch display as its primary interface in addition to a photo viewer. It has enough onboard memory to store about 5,000 shots and has a unique search feature that can find photos based on people, location, the time or by event, much as with newer computer photo apps.

As a camera, the Slice is one of Kodak's more advanced compacts and carries a 14-megapixel sensor with a 5X, optically stabilized lens. Movies are recorded at up to 720p, and a dedicated sharing button streamlines putting content on Facebook, Flickr, YouTube and Kodak's own Gallery service.

The Playsport, in turn, is Kodak's third pocket video camera but is rare in being the only one to both record in 1080p and come in a ruggedized body. Besides absorbing impacts better than regular cameras, it can be used underwater and otherwise take significant abuse. Its sensor also allows for 5-megapixel stills and uses SDHC cards for storage.

Both the Slice and Playsport ship in April at prices of $350 and $150 respectively.
