LG BD590 uses permanent space for CDs, VUDU

LG as part of its sweeping updates added a new flagship Blu-ray player to its mix. The BD590 is one of the first Blu-ray players anywhere with a hard drive and uses this to transform its role; while it can't rip movies, it now has a CD ripping feature that lets owners import their albums and auto-supply Gracenote track data. Such extra space also gives the player room to store VUDU purchases and rentals as well as a place to offload media stored on USB.

The new movie reader appropriately has BD-Live support and will stream data shared from DLNA-ready sources. An 802.11n Wi-Fi link provides its primary source of Internet access.

LG declines to provide a price but expects to ship the BD590 between the spring and summer.
