New Gateway LT21 upgrades CPU

Gateway on Wednesday added new models to its LT series of notebooks with a few new Pine Trail-powered models under the LT21 series. All sport a 1.66GHz Intel Atom processor and a six-cell, 5,600mAh battery that is said to be good for up to 10 hours of use. Models powered by the standard six-cell, 4400mAh battery are said to be good for up to eight hours of operation.

The 10.1-inch display is LED-backlit and has a 1024x600 resolution; integrated Intel graphics receive a mild speed boost as a result of the CPU switch. All share a built-in webcam and a digital microphone. The lightest model weighs less than 2.8lbs and is under 1-inch thick. Each has a multi-touch trackpad that supports gesture shortcuts.

Buyers can opt for either 160GB or 250GB hard drives, while RAM is fixed at 1GB. Connections include three USB ports, an Ethernet port and a VGA output. There is also a choice of Windows XP or Windows 7 Starter.

Available colors include red, black and white. Prices start at $300 and go up to $350, with shipping due to start later in January.
