TVs must support Internet@TV

Napster has announced that its music subscription service will be available through Samsung TVs, beginning this week. Listeners must grab the Napster TV widget from the Yahoo Widget Gallery, which is present on TVs with the Internet@TV option introduced in summer 2008. Users can then start a 14-day trial, or log into an existing account. Aside from on-demand streaming the widget supports playing radio stations and custom playlists.

The company has meanwhile published the Napster Access API, used to produce the Samsung widget. As a result developers should be able to integrate Napster into other platforms, including websites, handhelds and other TVs. All functions are nominally supported, though buying MP3s must be done over the web, and offering a free trial is limited to electronics corporations.

    What?

Napster is still around? I thought they went out of business a few years ago...
