Sony intros HX5, TX7 digital cameras with AVCHD
Among its many product debuts at CES, Sony released a pair of digital cameras that are the first to record 1920x1080 video in the AVCHD format. The DSC-HX5V and DSC-TX7 share the same 10-megapixel sensor and also have the same Backlight Correction High Dynamic Range (HDR) feature as well as TransferJet wireless technology. The HX5V alone gets a geo-tagging feature called GPS + Compass and digital image stabilization.
The HX5 has a 3-inch LCD while its 10x optical zoom is the equivalent of a traditional 25-250mm film camera lens. A 10fps shooting mode is supported and either has an HDMI output for connecting to HDTVs.
The TX7 gets a larger 3.5-inch display that is touch sensitive along with a Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar 4x optical wide angle lens. Unlike previous Sony cameras, either can accommodate both Memory Stick and SDHC memory cards.
The HX5V will ship in black only this March, priced at nearly $350, while the TX7 can be had in blue, silver and red next month for about $400. The Memory Stick with TransferJet will be out later this month for around $100, while the docking station is due in February for about $150.
