Motorola shows MotoNav navigators at CES
Other than focusing on the new Android-powered BackFlip phone at CES, Motorola also outed its latest MotoNav portable navigation devices. The TN700 series is built around a 5.1-inch touchscreen, while the TN500 relies on a 4.3-inch display. The former also adds live traffic alerts and a 3D landmark map. Both series will pair with Bluetooth devices for a hands-free driving experience. Either will show the current position of a user’s car, though the TN700 does a better job of this thanks to its wider screen. When users want to call up a menu for finding points of interest or view bullet-point directions, less than half the screen is taken up by the menu.
Both series have several rear-mounted buttons that perform identical functions, with the top two controlling volume level while the bottom can be assigned as a shortcut to any feature. Entering addresses or points of interest is easier thanks to Google, as no specific order of entry is required. The results pop up by proximity by default, but can be sorted alphabetically.
The TN700 alone gets the MotoExtras feature, which will bring streaming traffic updates, local fuel prices, weather forecasts and flight status updates. Users can also perform voice searches using Bing when connected to their Bluetooth phones, for information such as stock quotes, horoscopes, travel information, sports, movie times and more. MotoExtra is free for the first three months, but then requires a monthly fee.
No prices have been named, though we are told to expect them to take up the premium end of the segment when they are released later this winter.
