MovieIQ Sync to ship with Jackson video

Sony in one of its lower-key news updates has revealed that the Sync component of movieIQ should arrive before the end of the month. A special Blu-ray edition of the Michael Jackson performance video This Is It will use the feature with a BD-Live enabled player to supply special features that will load at the same time as the movie on another device, including a computer, iPhone or iPod touch.

The movie will also have most other movieIQ features, which in the music-oriented title will let users create a custom playlist of the songs from the show. Other movies coming in the future should often get cast, production and soundtrack info appearing in sync with relevant movie scenes.

Sony hasn't explained how the portable device implementation will work for This Is It, such as through native iPhone apps or a live updating website, but plans to ship it on January 26th.
