Google Docs bumps up storage to 1GB, 2
Google on Tuesday announced it will soon upgrade its Google Docs service to hold files up to 250MB in size, letting users back up large graphics files, RAW photos, ZIP archives and more in the cloud. Google believes users can now give up USB drives they need to carry around with them to access their files on different computers and is an easier way to share larger files that cannot be easily emailed to co-workers or friends.
The service will give users 1GB of free storage space for files that aren't converted into a Google Doc format, and will give users the option of buying an additional GB at $0.25 per year. A search function will allow users to find their uploaded document files, and common document file types can be previewed by common document file types.
Google Apps premier edition customers can upload multiple files at once and sync them with their desktop in real time using third party applications. The upgraded service will go live over the next couple of weeks, with users notified via a bubble update when it does.
