MacBook Pro Core i5 promo a "communications problem"

Intel backtracks on apparent leak

Intel late Thursday tried to downplay the Core i5 MacBook Pro e-mail it had sent out to its Retail Edge program partners. The company now says the prize promo, which was sent out fully translated in multiple languages, was just a "communications problem" with Intel's marketing agency and was allegedly a mistake. A new copy of the e-mail has been sent out that replaces the Apple notebook in the giveaway with an HP Envy 15.

Despite the denial, most observers have seen the original e-mail as confirmation that Apple is about to revamp its pro notebooks with the new Intel processors, possibly as soon as the rumored January 27th event. Since Intel is ultimately poised to phase out the high-end Core 2 Duo processors Apple currently uses, the MacBook Pro line has little alternative but to move to the i5 and possibly i7 architectures.

    yeah

How appropriate that the prize was changed to an HP "Envy."

If you win, you will envy those people who have MacBook Pros.

Not so sure about that -- you can put 16G of RAM into an Envy, & it has USB3 gazinta/gazouta. Plus, you can still order a non-shiny screen. Say what you will, Envy owners need envy no one.

The hardware on the HP is cool--it's OS is another matter....

Just a thought; how many USB 3 devices are roaming around out there? 100% of the tech, periferals and storage use USB 2, FW400 or FW800. Not complaining, but it is not a game changer for me.
