FIC gets into Pine Trail netbooks with unique SVE00

FIC SVE00 has controls accessible while closed

Not normally known as a contender in netbooks, FIC made its presence felt this week with a new entry, the SVE00. Running on the now expected 1.66GHz Atom from Intel's Pine Trail platform, the 10-inch system is mostly unique through its design: the display section is smaller than the base and lets owners toggle power or wireless without entirely opening the lid. Customization is just as important as it can run either Linux or Windows XP and has the option of either a rotating or solid-state drive.

The system will regularly come with 1GB of RAM but can support 2GB, while storage tops out at either 32GB for the SSD or 500GB for a conventional disk. Wi-Fi, a 1.3-megapixel webcam and a multi-touch trackpad are always built-in, but it has the choice of wide-area wireless that scale up to HSPA or WiMAX in those areas that support either.

A 3-cell battery is the only publicly listed choice and is likely to keep longevity strictly average.

Like most companies in the region, FIC doesn't have a ready price for the SVE00 but should make it available in each region. FIC doesn't normally sell computers to the US directly. [via Akihabara News]
