LG 19in e-ink largest ever

On Thursday in Seoul, LG Display announced the development of a 19-inch e-paper display that is very flexible, though cannot be totally folded. The monochrome display is just 0.01 inches (0.3mm) thick and has a TFT array and a thin metal foil that helps it recover its original shape. The ePaper display otherwise measures 9.8 by 15.7 inches and uses similar technology to the 11.5-inch Skiff reader, the screen of which will also be manufactured by LG Display.

LG used gate-in-panel technology to allow for the display's flexibility, which removes driver ICs from the side of the panel and integrates them onto the panel instead. The panel weighs just under 4.6 ounces, but LG is keeping mum on exactly how content can be stored or transferred onto the device. At this stage, there is no indication of any sort of built-in application processor, radio chipset or even a memory card reader.

There is no indication of if or when LG Display will commercialize the 19-inch display in its current form. [via MobileRead]
