ASUS intros OLED e-book reader with Wi-Fi, 3G

Taiwan's ASUS is getting into the highly-competitive e-book reader market, although late, with its DR-570. While the 6-inch device was conspicuous by its absence at the recent CES show, it will be technologically advanced, sporting a bright, OLED color screen and is said to have a 122-hour battery life. It should also be much more powerful than most e-readers as it will support Flash video over its built-in Wi-Fi or 3G connection.

Some sources say the screen will actually be 5.7 inches in size and have a 768x1024 resolution with an OLED-typical 0.03-second refresh rate. It will reportedly have 4GB of built-in storage, and 512MB of RAM. The battery is a 1,530mAh unit. An SDHC memory card slot will be integrated as well, and the entire device should weigh less than half a pound.

The DR-570 is said to be released before the end of the year, though pricing is not yet known. [via The Times]
