9-inch ASUS e-reader spotted ahead of schedule
A second e-reader from computer maker ASUS has surfaced in as many days in the form of the DR-950. Unlike yesterday's 6-inch, full-color DR-570, the new model uses a typical grayscale e-paper display instead of an OLED screen. In exchange, it gets a larger (9-inch) 1024x768 touchscreen and is just over a third of an inch thick.
It will reportedly also have built-in Wi-Fi, along with HSDPA or perhaps WiMAX to download books away from home. More traditional ways of loading content onto the device includes a USB port that can fill up 2GB or 4GB of internal memory, as well as an SD card slot. A 3.5mm audio jack will let users connect headphones for music.
RSS feeds, translation and text-to-speech functions will be supported. Formats the device can read include PDF, TXT, Audible, ePub, HTML, MP3, JPEG, GIF, PNG and BMP. The DR-950 will weigh 13 ounces, which should make it easier for carrying around.
A release date and price remain unknown. [via ElectricPig]
