Netbooks scheduled for April release

ASUS is set to launch several variety of new netbooks, with AMD Athlon Neo-based models arriving next month and several Ion 2-based systems scheduled for the spring, according to a DigiTimes report. The company has already confirmed plans to release an all-in-one, the Eee Top, driven by the Ion 2 chipset, although the recent report is the first indication of an ASUS netbook based on NVIDIA's second-generation mobile platform.

The Ion 2 components are claimed to provide improvements to video playback and battery life, although ASUS has yet to announce full specs for the upcoming device.

In the 12-inch Eee PC group, ASUS has added a configuration that is based on AMD's Congo chipset. The company recently previewed a Congo-based 1201T capable of 1080p video playback, as the Athlon Neo CPU is paired with an ATI Radeon HD3200 graphics processor.

The 12-inch Congo-based Eee PC is expected to ship in February for TN 18,000 (~$560 USD), while the Ion 2-based models will be released in April for TN 14,000 (~$435 USD).
