Android users more likely to want free extras
Myxer in a study today revealed that users of Android, and most other smartphone platforms, are much more likely to look for free ringtones and wallpapers than iPhone owners. Of all the downloads in the fall, the combined Android platform resulted in seven times more downloads than for Apple's lineup. Visits to the website were also three times higher as Android users make up about 12 percent of all traffic.
Both are in the relative minority, as 67 percent of visitors are using a BlackBerry OS variant. About 11 percent use Windows Mobile and 5 percent use Palm's webOS or PalmOS, either of which is more popular than the iPhone on the site.
The largest portion of Android visits come from a T-Mobile G1 or HTC Dream, but that number has shrunk to just 35 percent as the myTouch 3G (HTC Magic), Motorola's Cliq and Droid, and the HTC Hero have all taken places on the market.
The content provider doesn't directly explain the discrepancy, but the gap may exist primarily due to the gaps in content between iTunes and it rivals. Apple's portal lets purchasers make ringtones of their own tracks and also supplies apps that can fulfill much of the need of a site like Myxer. Most BlackBerry and Android owners have a much smaller selection of apps and are often only given a carrier store to shop for ringtones.

some story
Most folks with the iPhone can easily make their own ringtones and wallpapers...
why buy something you can create yourself?
