Chrome update makes add-ons, bookmark sync final

Google today updated the stable, public version of Chrome for Windows with features previously only available in a December beta. The Chrome 4 upgrade primarily brings extensions and gives users features such as Gmail checking, web clips or other official and unofficial add-ons. Bookmark sync is also present and lets those with Google accounts push new bookmarks to more than one computer.

The new version gets a much faster web renderer, and compared to the latest stable release is estimated to be about 42 percent quicker in benchmarks.

Linux users already have access to the new features through a beta, but in a small update Google has asked Mac users to "hang tight" and is still integrating the features into a beta release. No immediate reason is given for the delay, but Mac OS X's handling of processes is often believed to require a significant change in development versus other platforms.
